Black Friday Extended to Improve Retail Holiday Sales

By November 21, 2010

Retailers are continuing to offer deals throughout the month and will continue to do so in order to boost retail holiday sales! This extended Black Friday strategy will continue until Christmas. Big Box Retailers such as Toys R Us, Gap Inc, Best Buy and Wal-Mart are all offering deals prior to Black Friday and will offer great deals throughout the end of the year.

Wal-Mart is offering free shipping on almost 60,000 online items, with no minimum purchases necessary. This offer will run through Dec. 20. And Sears already started their Black Friday sales last week! Additionally, Gap's Old Navy will be open on Thanksgiving Day this year. All of these retailers are attempting to capture market share in hopes that people will splurge during the holidays.

"Our campaign for holiday is centered around holiday wants," Chief Executive Officer for Gap Inc., Glenn Murphy said on a recent conference call. "We'll lead with our most wanted product of the season -- that's that 'buy for me' part -- and then follow up with the most wanted gifts."

The end goal is to entice buyers to shop for themselves prior to spending all of their extra cash on friends and family. Let's hope that this extended Black Friday strategy will boost holiday retail sales!
